Schizocosa vulpecula (L. Koch, 1865)

Immature female of Schizocosa vulpecula [as illustrated in Koch, 1877a]. Cephalothorax length 5.5 mm.

N.B. Platnick (2001) lists this species as Australian, however, Koch's (1877a) immature female was collected on the Wallis Islands (South Pacific Islands), and was not listed by Rainbow (1911) and McKay (1973, 1985b).

Systematics and Taxonomy

Lycosa vulpecula L. Koch, 1865: 864-865.
Lycosa vulpecula L. Koch.-  L. Koch, 1877a: 914-915, plate 79, Fig. 2.
Avicosa vulpecula (L. Koch).- Roewer, 1955c: 236.

Types

Holotype:

Koch (1877a) already cites that the holotype male he used to described this species with in 1865, appears to be lost. The immature female he described in 1877 must therefore be regarded as neotype.

Distribution

Known from type locality only, Wallis Islands (South Pacific) (Koch, 1877a).
